Tag-shedding rates for tropical tuna species in the Atlantic Ocean estimated from double-tagging data

چکیده

An objective of the Atlantic Ocean Tropical tuna Tagging Programme (AOTTP) was to estimate Type-I (immediate) and Type-II (long-term) tag-shedding rates for tropical tunas from double-tagging experiments. Historical information on studies conducted in different parts world incorporated as prior distributions using a Bayesian approach new parameters. were respectively estimated at 0.007 0.084/yr bigeye tuna, 0.021 0.051/yr skipjack 0.088/yr yellowfin tuna. Using realizations derived MCMC posterior distributions, shedding rate reach 50% tags after seven half years sea eight The loss conventional is lower skipjack. Our results suggested that continuous size-dependant (i.e., showing three-fold increase between individuals less than 45 cm fork length (FL) release fishes larger 65 FL). This study reinforces need account along with other sources uncertainty, such reporting rate, order accurately exploitation mortality tagging data.

Growth and mortality rates of bigeye tuna Thunnus obesus (Perciformes: Scombridae) in the central Atlantic Ocean.

Age and growth parameters were estimated for bigeye tuna Thunnus obesus Lowe, 1839 sampled from China longline fisheries in the central Atlantic Ocean from October 2002 to July 2003 and from August 2004 to March 2005. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters were estimated at L(infinity)=217.9 cm fork length, k=0.23 year(-1), and t(0)=-0.44 year. The total mortality rate (Z) was estimated to be fr...

Open ocean dead zones in the tropical North Atlantic Ocean

Here we present first observations, from instrumentation installed on moorings and a float, of unexpectedly low (< 2 μmolkg) oxygen environments in the open waters of the tropical North Atlantic, a region where oxygen concentration does normally not fall much below 40 μmolkg. The low-oxygen zones are created at shallow depth, just below the mixed layer, in the euphotic zone of cyclonic eddies a...

Tuna Longline Catch Rates in the Indian Ocean

Myers and Worm’s recent letter to the editor raise serious concerns about the impacts of the industrial fishing on large predatory fish and the associated biological community in four continental shelf and nine pelagic oceanic systems. They suggest that in these systems industrial fisheries have removed 90% of the large predators and that these removals may compromise the sustainability of fish...

Intrinsic Ocean–Atmosphere Variability of the Tropical Atlantic Ocean

The tropical Atlantic variability is composed of three major patterns of significant importance for variability and predictability of climate in the Atlantic sector. They are the southern tropical Atlantic (STA) pattern with anomalous sea surface temperature (SST) fluctuations expanding from the Angolan coast to the central equatorial ocean, the northern tropical Atlantic (NTA) pattern centered...

Dissolved iron in the tropical and subtropical Atlantic Ocean

[1] Detailed depth profiles and surface transects of dissolved iron (DFe defined by 0.4-mm filtration) were investigated on three cruises in the subtropical and tropical Atlantic Ocean where dust deposition varied by 3 orders of magnitude. Surface DFe and dissolved Mn concentrations reflected dust deposition trends, but are not proportional to the estimated inputs. Using estimates of the atmosp...
